BIG YAM to the Rescue: Giving back the best way we know how
An Agency With a Mission
We set out on a mission to find a group who needed us and we enlisted the community to help out.
Anyone who has lived in the Valley for any length of time knows there are too many deserving groups to name. How could we ever narrow it down? We decided to create a contest. Everyone loves a good, friendly competition, right?
Some Friendly Competition
To start with, BIG YAM announced we were launching a campaign and officially opened an online call for entries. It was amazing to see so many organizations jump at the chance for some pro bono marketing services from the agency.
“Budget is often one of the biggest obstacles facing nonprofit organizations that want to launch new marketing efforts,” said Marianne Curran, CEO, BIG YAM. “This removed that barrier and allowed us the opportunity to share our talents and expertise to help elevate a deserving organization.”
Entrants were evaluated through a number of steps and ultimately the pool was narrowed down to three. The public was given the power to decide which organization would come out on top.
“We wanted the public to select the winner because these groups directly impact our community and who better to decide who should receive these services than our own citizens,” said Curran.
The three groups were:
- YWCA: Focuses its mission-driven work in three signature areas: Racial Justice and Civil Rights, Empowerment and Economic Advancement of Women and Girls and Health and Safety of Women and Girls.
- SARRC: Dedicated to autism research, education, evidence-based treatment and community outreach. It is the only autism organization in the world that provides a lifetime of services.
- Child Crisis Arizona: Serves vulnerable children, parents and caregivers, legal guardians and prospective foster and adoptive parents by providing emergency shelters for children, licensing of foster and adoptive families, prevention and education for caregivers and more.
It was neck and neck right up to the 11th hour of voting, and SARRC ultimately came out victorious. They were so excited to learn the news!
Come back to the Side Dish soon to see how we unveiled the results. Spoiler alert: it involved balloons, breakfast and a whole lot of smiles!
